SDVDS is a 501c nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and preservation of the historic social dances 1800-1970. We are available for special dance performances, and we sponsor vintage dance events complete with live authentic music, encouraging historic style attire and behavior by attendees. For 15 years we have hosted a Viennese Nights Victorian Ball here in San Diego.
We also periodically host weekend and week long dance festivals, which include dance lessons as well as themed dances, all around the country. Our next dance week is Chattanooga Vintage Dance Week, September 15-20, 2019.
For our 9th vintage dance week we will be in and around Chattanooga, TN. Our dance venues include an Art Deco train station, a faux Tudor mansion, a rustic antebellum mill, a Victorian mansion, and a former Edwardian church. Days trips include a stroll through a fantasy park created by the inventors of miniature golf, a steam train dinner and tour of an antebellum mansion and the Chickamauga battlefield. Our dance master is Richard Powers, of Stanford University, who will teach 2 classes each day.
Dress suggestions for the week include 1920s day/party wear, mid 19th Cent daywear, Titanic era, summer whites (any era), and 1920-40s travel wear.
Our live music for the week will be provided by Matt Tolentino and friends. See Registration page for further details.
Tuition is $450 per person, and includes all classes, all balls, two dinners and most tours (battlefield is Federal park and senior pass gets you in free).
Our hotel is the Chattanooga Choo Choo (what else?) where we have vintage train car rooms (while they last) and regular rooms. See registration form for cost and phone number---you must make your own reservation.
