SDVDS is a 501c nonprofit organization dedicated to the study and preservation of the historic social dances 1800-1970. We are available for special dance performances, and have appeared at the San Diego Symphony, the Lyceum Theater, the SD Theater Organ Society, and the National Museum of Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Our group also sponsors vintage dance events complete with live authentic music, encouraging historic style attire and behavior by attendees. For over 15 years we have hosted a Viennese Nights Victorian Ball here in San Diego.
We also periodically host weekend and week long dance festivals around the country , which include dance lessons as well as themed dances. Some of our weekend events have included a Titanic 100 Year Commemoration in 2012 and A Victorian Dance Weekend at the Glen Tavern Inn in Santa Paula in 2013. In 2022 we celebrated the 100 year discovery of King Tut's Tomb.
We have hosted 9 historic dance weeks all over the country , including San Diego, Mackinac Island, and Ashville, NC. In September 2019 we hosted a week in Chattanooga , TN. Plans are continuing to host our next dance week in San Diego.

On February 1, 2025, we will again experience the enchantment of a traditional Waltz Ball, celebration the music and dances of the 19th and early 20th Centuries. San Diego's own Grand Pacific Waltz Orchestra , under the direction of Mr. Joe Dyke, will provide LIVE authentic music for waltzes, polkas, Quadrilles, schottishches and more! The fabulous Ms. Joan Walton of San Jose is our dance mistress for the evening. Ms. Walton, an authority of historic vintage dances, will also teach a basic class in "survival Waltz," as well as the specialty dances of the evening, in the afternoon prior to the ball. The lesson will be $15 at the door and will take place 11 am -1 pm. The Ball and class will take place in our favorite grand ballroom, the Balboa Park Club, a 12,000 sf 1915 ballroom in famous Balboa Park, here in San Diego. For the evening ball, doors will open at 5:45 pm, and music at 6:15pm - 9:15pm.
We always encourage vintage style formal wear of the 19th or early 20th Centuries, but this is not required. However, this is always a formal event. No jeans, tennis shoes, sandals, miniskirts, tees, allowed. Ladies please wear long dresses, and men please wear jackets. Face masks are optional.
Tickets are $30 per person prepaid for all attendees (no discounts), $40 at the door if available. By purchasing tickets, you and your guests agree to these terms and agree to assume all risks associated with an event of this type.
